Who We are
Synergy Mechanical is a full-service mechanical contractor focusing on Commercial, Multifamily Residential, Institutional and Light Industrial Projects in Greater Vancouver.
Synergy was founded in 2005. Our team currently consists of over 40 full-time employees that self-perform plumbing, gas and hydronic work. We have long-standing relationships with the industries’ top HVAC and fire protection contractors to provide you with a full-mechanical scope. We will also provide a plumbing-only scope if preferred.
Synergy has successfully completed a wide variety of work such as: schools, senior care facilities, hospital renovations, laboratories, commercial swimming pools, commercial water features, car dealerships, breweries, food processing plants, multi-family mixed use residential, and major renovations and tenant improvements to many of Vancouver’s most prominent heritage buildings, malls, Vancouver International Airport, and much more. Synergy also offers a full range of plumbing and preventative maintenance services.

Derek Ponsford
PRINCIPAL
Derek is a Red Seal Journeyman plumber and licensed gasfitter who’s been with Synergy Mechanical since 2009 and has been working in the local mechanical contracting industry since 2004. In 2018 Derek became a co-owner of Synergy Mechanical. Derek holds a bachelor’s degree in construction management from BCIT in addition to associate’s certificates in both construction operations and construction supervision from BCIT. Derek is also a registered Professional Gold Seal mechanical project manager and superintendent with the Canadian Construction Association. Derek is currently primarily involved in operations and project management.

Kevin Clark
PRINCIPAL
Kevin is a Red Seal Journeyman plumber and licensed gasfitter who’s been with Synergy Mechanical since 2005. He is an experienced project manager, estimator, and technician. In 2018 Kevin became a co-owner of Synergy Mechanical. Prior to working for Synergy Kevin worked in the banking industry after completing a bachelor’s degree in economics at SFU. Today Kevin’s primarily involved in project management and estimating.

Leigh Malkoske
OFFICE MANAGER
Leigh has been with Synergy since 2013, after having spent many years in the local HVAC industry. Leigh is a big part of Synergy’s daily operations. Leigh manages the company’s day-to-day bookkeeping, HR & administration. Leigh also juggles many other roles including ensuring our service customers and clients are always taken care of.

Matt Herbert
SERVICE MANAGER
Matt is a Red Seal Journeyman plumber and licensed class “A” gasfitter. Matt has been working in the local mechanical contracting industry since 2005. Matt’s experience includes service, construction and working as a project consultant for a mechanical engineering firm. By working closely with suppliers and our service technicians, he can provide a quick and cost-effective service to Synergy’s clients. Matt can customize Preventative Maintenance programs that will minimize equipment and building downtime.

Steve Ulmer
SUPERINTENDENT
Steve is a Red Seal Journeyman plumber and licensed gasfitter who’s been working in the local mechanical contracting industry since 1992. Steve has extensive experience as a superintendent leading teams of up to 80 tradesmen on some of Vancouver’s larger projects . Steve is responsible for overseeing all of Synergy’s day-to-day field operations.

Joe Poortinga
SAFETY OFFICER
Joe is a Red Seal Journeyman plumber and licensed gasfitter who’s been with Synergy Mechanical since 2017. He is an experienced tradesman who’s a certified trades safety coordinator.
